Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, is currently on a campaign tour in New Hampshire as he prepares to run for president in 2024.
Hogan is positioning himself to offer Republicans a substitute to Donald Trump and the populist coalition of the Republican base, which gained prominence during the tenure of the previous president.

Hogan’s tour of New England kicked off on Sunday when he served as the featured speaker at a fundraising event for a candidate for the Republican Senate nomination in Connecticut, Themis Klarides.
It will continue this week with a trip to a fire station in Boston and additional stops with rescue workers in New Hampshire.
Starting on Monday evening, Hogan was set to make six engagements in the crucial early presidential nomination state of New Hampshire.
Hogan is Not Trump
Hogan was in New Hampshire to push his strategy to offset effects that surging inflation will have on the economy and engage with local business owners.

Though the underlying message of Hogan’s political engagement, in general, is that he is not Trump.
Hogan thinks the Republican Party would fare better if it imitated the political strategies of Ronald Reagan, who served as the 40th president, rather than those of Trump.
For one, Hogan supports Klarides for the Senate seat in Connecticut because she mirrors his opinion of Trump; like him, she did not endorse the erstwhile president for reelection in 2020.
Despite the fact that data shows Trump with the massive support of core Republicans who are expected to vote in the 2024 White House primary, the governor of Maryland thinks he is making progress with his argument.
Fundraising and Support
Hogan predicted that President Trump’s influence on the Republican Party would wane over time in an episode of Meet the Press that aired on NBC News on Sunday. Even though it hasn’t happened, he said the problem of Trump has become much less severe.
Hogan’s attempt to stand as a barrier against Trump and his flanks in the party has included raising money for Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA).
Both of these individuals are opposed by the erstwhile president since they backed his impeachment in the fallout of the ransacking of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Furthermore, the governor’s external political group, An America United, has been running ads in central California on behalf of Representative David Valadao.
Valadao was one of ten Republicans in the House of Representatives who voted in favor of impeaching President Trump in relation to the riots that occurred on January 6.
Hogan is supporting Kelly Schulz in the Republican primary for governor of Maryland, where she is competing against Dan Cox. The latter has the endorsement of President Trump.
