Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Behind on Business Taxes

Over the years, the Democrat Party has made no bones about being openly in favor of more taxes.

Democrats claim increasing taxes will create better opportunities for the middle class; they also say higher taxes on the wealthy especially ensure that everyone gets a piece of the pie.

However, Democrats aren’t exactly practicing what they preach when it comes to the promotion of taxes. For starters, Joe Biden and Jill Biden used an S-corporation to dodge tax bills on income they pulled in over the years.

More recently, Washington Examiner revealed that House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t paid all of her taxes either.

A Closer Look at AOC’s Back Taxes

In 2012, Ocasio-Cortez established Brook Avenue Press, a publishing house specifically focused on children’s books. Although, five years later, the state of New York issued a tax warrant, owing to the publishing house’s back corporate taxes.

The tax bill that was once $1,618 has now grown to $2,461. According to the office of the congresswoman, however, there’s an “error” associated with the warrant against Brook Avenue Press.

At this time, Ocasio-Cortez is believed to be trying to rectify this error. In 2020, a spokesperson for the Democratic lawmaker stated that because Brook Avenue Press hasn’t been in operations for years, New York has been improperly trying to get franchise taxes.

Finally, the congresswoman’s spokesperson noted the process of trying to rectify errors with a tax warrant takes time. Aside from these statements in 2020, Ocasio-Cortez has not specifically addressed the tax bill or whether she plans to pay it in full.

Double Standards?

News of Ocasio-Cortez being behind on her own taxes has attracted a fair amount of backlash her way. The congresswoman is known to advocate for higher taxes and taxing the wealthy in general.

During the 2021 Met Gala, Ocasio-Cortez event infamously wore a dress that read “tax the rich” in bold red letters. Due to her consistent advocacy for higher taxes, many Americans believe the least the Democrat could do is make sure she’s fulfilling her own tax bills.

In other news, tax increases are routinely criticized by the GOP and others who see the fiscal dangers. Fiscal conservatives consistently note that even if rich people were to be taxed at 100%, it still wouldn’t cover all the spending that’s been promoted by progressives.

At this time, it appears as though Ocasio-Cortez’s tax bill in New York will continue to increase and accumulate fines until it’s either settled or paid.
