David Axelrod: Biden’s Age is a Huge Political Concern

0

David Axelrod, a former adviser to Barack Obama, raised a huge red flag about President Joe Biden’s aspirations to run for reelection in 2024, citing the incumbent president’s elderly age as the primary reason for his concern.

Possible Contenders

His comments were published in a report issued on Saturday in the New York Times. The report examined murmurs among Democrats.

They are becoming overly worried about Biden’s leadership in advance of the 2022 midterm elections, in which it is widely anticipated that Republicans will regain control of at least one chamber of Congress.

At the age of 79, Biden is the oldest individual who ever held the president’s office.

Biden was older when he assumed office than Ronald Reagan was when he left office at the age of 77. Reagan, at the time, was the second-oldest president ever to be in office.

After a second term, Biden would be 82 years old.

According to Axelrod, “the president would indeed be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of reelection; that would be a significant issue.”

In December, President Biden stated he might consider a run for reelection if his health permitted it.

In the event that Biden decides not to run for a second term as president, younger candidates may vie for the nomination of the Democrat Party.

Former opponents in the 2020 election who are now serving in the administration of Joe Biden could be among them.

For example, it could be Vice President Kamala Harris, who is 57 years old, or Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is 40 years old.

Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), two prominent left-wing politicians who are 80 and 72 years old, respectively, also stoked speculation about a possible presidential run at a time when Joe Biden’s poll numbers have taken a nosedive.

Trump and Biden’s Achievements

Former President Trump is 75 years old. He has toyed with the idea of running for president again in 2024.

The frequent gaffes that Biden makes, which are then usually cleaned up by his staff, provide fodder for those who are critical of him to raise issues about his physical vitality and mental acuity.

Axelrod, who played a vital role in both of Barack Obama’s successful presidencies, contended the age issue had been a smokescreen for Joe Biden’s achievements. Axelrod was a top tactician for both of Obama’s campaigns.

“Biden does not get the recognition he deserves for steering the nation through the worst of the disease outbreak.”

“He doesn’t get recognition for passing historical laws, trying to pull the NATO coalition against Russian provocation, and rebuilding decency and civility in the White House,” Axelrod said.

“Biden does not get the credit he deserves.”

“This contributed to a story about his competency that isn’t founded in reality, despite the fact he looks his age and isn’t as agile in front of the camera as he once was.”
