Polk County’s Coordinated Crime Crackdown
Polk County Sheriff’s Office initiated “Operation Autumn Sweep” on October 2, 2024. This was a community-focused effort involving local, state, and international agencies to target human trafficking and associated crimes. Out of the 157 arrests, 96 were for soliciting prostitution, and 35 felonies alongside 201 misdemeanors were charged. Law enforcement identified four human trafficking victims, indicating the extent of the network impacted by this operation.
During the operation, three others were apprehended for attempting to sexually exploit minors. The operation faced disruption due to Hurricane Milton, which prompted its early conclusion. Despite this, Sheriff Grady Judd took pride in the operation’s effectiveness.

These individuals were allegedly here unlawfully, employed in diverse sectors, including prominent local establishments like Disney World. The suspects ranged in age from 15 to 61, underscoring the broad demographics of those involved in these crimes. “The approach of Hurricane Milton caused us to end our investigation earlier than planned, but it’s still amazing that in such a short amount of time, we were able to put 157 people in jail, and three child predators. Sixteen percent of the suspects we arrested are here illegally, but were offered free medical, food, travel, and housing, compliments of the U.S. taxpayers – meanwhile, hurricane victims are still waiting, and praying for help,” Grady Judd said.
Illegal drugs and firearms emerged during undercover operations, providing insights into organized crime’s reach. Suspects’ prior criminal history included 327 felonies and 455 misdemeanors, creating a cycle that law enforcement aims to disrupt.
